Terms of Use
This English translation is provided for convenience. The French version is the only legally binding one: Conditions générales d’utilisation.
1. The service
Shefira is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in pixel art, free to play in a web browser. It is developed and run independently, as a passion project, by:
Mathéo Palmier (Echovillage), sole proprietor (entrepreneur individuel), 37 Hameau des Sagnes, 42130 Trelins, France, SIREN 104 531 561 (see the legal notice).
By creating a character or an account, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not play.
2. Account and character
- You can play right away as a guest, with just a nickname. A guest account can be secured at any time by adding an e-mail address and a password; without them, it may be lost if your browser forgets its session.
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens on your account. Do not share it.
- To create an account on your own, you must be at least 15 years old (the age of digital majority in France, Article 45 of the French Data Protection Act, loi Informatique et Libertés). Under 15, the consent of a parent or legal guardian is required; a parent may at any time ask for their child’s account to be deleted by writing to the contact address.
- An account and its characters belong to a single person: no selling, trading or lending of accounts.
3. Behavior
Shefira is a cooperative game where people meet and help each other. The following are forbidden:
- harassment, insults, discriminatory remarks, threats;
- spam, advertising, solicitation;
- cheating in any form: bots, scripts, exploiting bugs, modifying the client, attacks against the server;
- impersonating another player or a member of the team;
- offensive or misleading nicknames, character names or guild names (a filter rejects them automatically);
- selling characters, items or in-game gold for real money.
Any player can report another player from within the game (the player’s menu, “Report”). Reports are read by the game masters.
4. Sanctions
Depending on how serious and repeated the conduct is, a game master may, without notice: mute a character for a limited time, kick a player from the game, or ban an account temporarily or permanently. A ban applies to the account and all its characters. Sanctions are logged. You can dispute a sanction at the contact address below.
5. Shop and payments
The game is free. Its shop sells virtual items, paid for through Stripe (appearances with no stats, pets, mounts). Purchases are governed by the terms of sale: description of the items, prices, delivery, right of withdrawal, refunds and warranties.
6. Ownership
The game, its code, graphics, music, texts and names are the property of the operator or its rights holders. In-game characters, items and gold remain the property of the operator: you hold a personal, non-exclusive and revocable right to use them. You keep the rights to what you write in the chat, but you allow us to pass it on to other players, to display it and to moderate it.
7. Availability and liability
Shefira is an independent project, provided “as is”. We do our best to keep the game available and the data backed up, but we guarantee neither that there will be no interruptions, nor that no data will be lost, nor that the service will last. The game may change, and in-game items may be rebalanced or removed. We can only be held liable for a failure attributable to us; we are not liable in cases of force majeure, the act of a third party or your own act (sharing your password, losing a guest account that was not secured). What concerns purchased items is set out in the terms of sale.
8. Termination
You can stop playing at any time and ask for your account to be deleted at the contact address. We may close an account that breaches these terms, or close the service as a whole with at least 30 days’ notice published in the game and on the website. What happens to purchased items in either case is governed by the terms of sale.
9. Changes
These terms may be updated; the date at the top of the page is authoritative. A significant change is announced in the game. Continuing to play after the update means you accept it.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by French law, without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution is sought first, if need be with the consumer mediator named in the terms of sale; failing that, the competent court is the one designated by law, including that of your place of residence.
